ViewPoint’s powerful search capability provides users with the ability to quickly find information, create ad hoc reports, and to take action based on results. Users can search on Tasks, Documents and Issues. Within a specific search tab, there are two major options: Simple and Advanced. Simple searches are predefined queries that locate the information described. For instance the document search ‘Retrieve all Descendant of the Current Component’ will return a listing of the entire structure found beneath a component. This result is itself an ad hoc table of contents. Using the advanced tab, you are able to create your own search specific to what you are looking for.
With search results, users can take action on the information (such as assigning a task to a user or assigning an issue to multiple documents). Using searches to perform certain actions in a bulk fashion – rather than individually – is a huge time-saver in ViewPoint.
Additionally, users can export the results of any search by right-clicking in the results box and selecting to export to either Ms-Excel or to PDF. This is a very useful function if you’d like to further analyze data or produce a formatted report.
